Our Company
Squarespace, Inc. is a private software company based in the Soho district of lower Manhattan.
The company was founded in 2003 by Anthony Casalena, who, until Squarespace was born, was utterly unable to find an elegant way of managing his small personal website. Since its inception, Squarespace has blossomed into a product that powers thousands of sophisticated websites for small businesses, bloggers, professionals, and small organizations worldwide. Squarespace has been mentioned in both the Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek, as well as on countless other blogs and news sites.
We really, really hate bargain bin, advertising cluttered, slow software. Squarespace was started, and will remain, a departure from this way of presenting software and services. We're completely picky about what kind of applications we want to use, what kind of applications we recommend, and how those applications look and feel. You should be too. After all, you're the one who has to use the services you select day after day.
Our People
Anthony Casalena has been a professional software engineer for over a decade. Prior to founding Squarespace, Anthony developed and maintained the core product of VC-backed internet startup Hyperoffice.com, an online office products company that serviced over 150,000 clients. Anthony's products have received attention from publications such as The Wall Street Journal Online, the Washington Post, and BusinessWeek, including Squarespace which manages sites for thousands of individuals and businesses, serving more than one billion hits per year. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland.
Dane Atkinson started his first company, SenseNet Inc., at the age of 18. The company grew explosively through servicing Fortune 500 companies (WPP, Pfizer, Lucent) to hundreds of employees on three continents. Since then, he's had an extremely successful career as a technology executive and has founded, bought, and sold over a dozen companies including yourday.com, yourstuff.com, estandardsforum.com, iensure.com. His extensive technology and marketing expertise helps us deliver increasingly rich service to our customers. In addition to his position as CEO, Dane also acts as advisor and board member to several leading technology companies.
Krystyn Heide has over a decade of experience designing for advertising agencies and new media companies. Her portfolio includes big brands such as AT&T, Cadillac, MTV and Busch, among others. We refer to her as our Senior Designer -- a title we use as a placeholder for someone who actually handles template design, front site design, marketing, branding, print design, strategy, creative direction, community building, and evangelism. Her speaking engagements have included the first ever Blogher Business conference, and two sessions at Blogher '07, where she explored the beauty of a more intimate online space and dished CSS advice in a design segment.
Davin Chew is an engineer and entrepreneur who has developed software for startups in New York and Silicon Valley. He was formerly co-founder and VP of Engineering of user-generated publishing startup Blockr, before joining Squarespace as an early employee. Not content with just building virtual products, Davin also co-founded a toy design company in 2005 whose first product, the ScreenSmasher, garnered rave reviews in publications such as the New York Times and PC World. Davin captained the Fencing Team at Harvard University where he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science.
